It is a meltdown, but she is cleverly trying to salvage something out of the evidently impending re-election of Donald Trump. She floats the idea that Trump is an interchangeable figurehead that is being forced to the extreme right by authoritarians who are running the party. I am thinking the left is hoping this accusation will appeal to Trumps ego and to prove he is no figurehead he may move more center and oppose the most extreme elements. It may work to some extent as I view Trump is not actually a true conservative. I will not be voting for him in the primary but if he is the nominee I will hold my nose for the third time and vote for him.
