Location: Pocomoke, Maryland
Arrested: Kierra Sturgis, Age 31 – Pocomoke, Maryland
Lemond Williams, Age 47 – Pocomoke, Maryland

On October 2, 2023, Worcester County Animal Control responded to the 500 block of Bonneville Avenue, Pocomoke, Worcester County, Maryland, for an animal complaint. During this investigation Animal Control Officers immediately located two dogs on the front porch in a crate, one of them being deceased. While on the front porch, Animal Control Officers also observed evidence of other dogs being neglected. Residents of this location, later identified as Kierra Sturgis and Lemond Williams refused to meet with Animal Control Officers on scene. With the assistance of the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation a search and seizure warrant was authored and approved for this residence.

Upon entry, two more dogs were located inside the residence and observed to be extremely emaciated and in poor condition, along with no food or water. Animal Control Officers seized these two additional dogs. All of these dogs are currently in the custody of Worcester County Animal Control and are being treated by a local veterinarian.

Kierra Sturgis and Lemond Williams, both of Pocomoke, Maryland, were each charged each with 36 counts of animal cruelty and animal neglect related charges; four of these charges being felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty. Both Sturgis and Williams were held without bond awaiting trial.

  1. There’s no excuse, but it’s a persistent problem on the Shore.
Our local shelters are packed with mostly large breed, shorthaired, toothy dogs who are the victims of indiscriminate breeding, poor handling, and outright abuse.
Dog fighting as a sport is still a thing around here. So is wholesale animal abuse outside of the arena. They aren’t pets, they’re slaves.

  2. They should be kept in a cell with no food or water until one dies and starts to eat the other.. just like that poor puppy did. I truly hate people like that.
