In the interest of safety, the City of Salisbury has made the decision to cancel the entire Maryland Folk Festival scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23. The current plan is for Sunday’s schedule to proceed as normal.

  1. But the throngs who cycled to town and are clogging the bikeways can try to stay dry by fashioning impromptu raincaps from….wait for it…..paper bags.

Hope they booked someone with Handel’s ‘Water Music’ in their repertoire!

  2. Imagine thinking you knew more than every meteorologist on the east coast.

The popo, fire and ambulance are busy and most certainly do not need the added burden of babysitting down town in the middle of state declared “state of emergency”, for some rinky dink folk party.

Agencies do not have the staff to cover it.

  3. Much smarter thinking than postponing 2 whole hours from beginning at 3:00pm to 5:00pm. No wonder Salisbury is going to Hell. By the way, any readers heard anything on the repaving of Mill St. Looks like Waverly is finished already.

  4. This festival yearly needs to be ended no more. Why can’t we have something more beneficial like we used to have in the spring or summer a good old fashioned Farm & Home Show at the Civic Center. They had all kinds of home made entries canned jams & jellies, pies. Local made crafts and items for the home. It represented this area and ribbons & prizes were won for first & second place. Good home cooked treats things that represented our area and our people for sale. By having the events inside weather was not an issue. This festival of Jake Days has always been a flop and just a lot of drinking, we need to keep families in mind from the elderly to the children.

    1. Sorry to laugh, but canned jams and jellies, represent the area? This joke and waste of taxpayer $$ was family friendly,. Just because there was alcohol doesn’t make it not family friendly.

Your farm and home shows are a flop because it no longer represents the area., and didn’t they end up as a chicken bbq in the mall parking lot? smh – talk about success and low class…….

People want main stream entertainment. This place is sooooo far behind the rest of the country it will never recover. Face it, you are a section 8 , minimum wage community that no one wants to come to.

Early on I read a story that the only reason the folked festival ended up here was because NO ONE else wanted it and the chick that was running it used to work at the ward museum and hit up jake to take it on to save her job, and he bought the bridge lock stock and barrel thinking that this uncultured, minimum wage hud community was going to flock to it.

Ya cant fix stupid and neither will the farm and home show with jams and jellies.

Open your eyes, as even the most basic fast food chains and retail stores are packing up and leaving this shithole.

  5. this so called shithole is competing with san fran, portland, chicago, philly and bmore for the worst of the worst!
what do they all have in common?
