What’s Your Thoughts On Deceased K9 That Died Of Heat Stroke In Hot Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputy Vehicle

While Sheriff Mike Lewis refuses to expose just who the deputy was that was involved in this stupid, ridiculous and even uncalled for incident. The deputy was having a private birthday party at their home and felt the dog would be bothered with all the children there. They chose to place the dog in the vehicle in 90+ degree temperatures and then all the excuses come out about how the vehicle malfunctioned and the a/c cut off.

I’m told the windows were closed and one could speculate that was to make sure they didn’t have to deal with all the barking. Nevertheless, K9’s are treated and respected as a PARTNER/OFFICER and some might say that this was not only neglect, (for sure) but a homicide as well.

The officer is no longer allowed to have a K9 and the incident is now being investigated by the Dorchester County State’s Attorney’s Office awaiting possible criminal charges.

One has to wonder, why was this kept covered up for so long and why hasn’t this officer been terminated? This is so wrong in so many ways. I’d say this was inexcusable and absolutely grounds for termination.

What’s your thoughts?

    1. Officer should have Been FIRED on the Spot / Charged / Jailed just like Anyone Else for
Murder & Animal Abuse !!!! Fire Sheriff TOO > Long Overdue !!!! Another COVER-UP !!!!!

  1. Unacceptable, especially for a K9 officer. Even with the system that was supposed to maintain AC and alert if it failed, we all know those have been known to fail. A K9 officer should, even more so, been mindful of that possibility. He should have just crated the dog inside the home.

  2. It’s been years ago, but I used to know a few K9 officers and they treated their dogs like family and kept them when their run on duty was done, someone should lock this moron in the back of his car to face the same fate

  3. This is quite simply an open and shut case. In this case it was a sheriff, which is irrelevant but at the same time should require a more harsh punishment as “he or she” not only made this happen, but without a doubt had far more training than a civilian would have. Also it was due to their complete selfishness and their failure to comply with rules and regulations. I also feel there may have been alcohol involved, which again, according to the actual law and the alternative, (the good ole boy system) will judge the outcome……unfortunately.

  4. LOCK LEWIS UP... LOCK LEWIS UP...LOCK LEWIS UP...

Why wasn’t the Air running in the Police car when K-9 was left inside OR put inside so the party would not be interrupted ?

Was Mike Lewis and Todd Richardson at the party??

Must’ve been a good party to ignore a trained animal that protected the FEMALE DEPUTY.

Mike Lewis has been building a home in Florida ..

I thinks it time to fire Mike Lewis and Tod RICHARDSON

BC OF BOTH OF them and their poor supervisory abilities, this poor animal died.

  5. Typical cop logic. One of their own steps out of line, so it’s time to circle the wagons and make sure they face zero consequences for their actions. If an average person did this, they’d be charged with animal abuse and gross negligence. But since this is a cop, he’ll get a paid vacation while the “investigation” takes place.

    1. you think its bad now, wait till our county executive Julie G bankrupts us tax payers with the sweet heart deal she is making with the county FOP…

  6. I read that the back up alarm system was unplugged at the time of Roxy’s death. And it’s not hard to determine who the handler is/was. Totally uncalled for. Roxy would risk her life to save her handler yet the handler locked her in a hot oven costing her her life. I hope the birthday party went well.

  7. There is always to much investigation and not enough action. The country is investigating everything and everybody and no one is being charged or going to jail. It’s a sad time in our country. The only person being charged with anything is Trump and he is probably the only one who hasn’t committed any crime.

  8. This officer is too stupid to have a pet of any sort, much less a K9!

Their K9 supposedly lived at home with their kid/s. And was trained to respond to handler’s commands in wide variety of situations. And to stay calm unless told otherwise. Seems like a gross breach of what I have heard K9 handling guidelines are. I get that the officer probably feels worse than any commenter.

How about a locked room in the house? Or the garage?

  9. I AGREE WITH MIKE THIS SHOULD BE A TRIAL AND NO LESS THAN IF A CHILD WAS LOCKED AND LEFT TO DIE .PERSONALLY I THINK HE SHOULD BE LEFT TO THE SAME DEATH. BUT DEFINATELY JAIL TIME AND AND END TO HIS JOB JUST THINK ABOUT THAT POOR DOG HOW LONG IT TOOK AND HOW IT SUFFERED.

  10. That is such a beautiful dog. Just lets you see these arrogant ass cops do not care about anything! Keep the k-9 dogs in until you need them instead of parading them around in the car . Stupid ass administration and deputy mistake. Bless that beautiful dog and the hell with Mikey and Bucky . I hope both of you get whats coming!

  11. Lewis has lost his focus and discipline over the WCSO. This just another example over the last few years, and should open the eyes of county citizens.

  12. fact is that it’s a dog, not a person. while there should be accountability for the responsible party to have made sure that all of the prevention devices were in proper working order, it’s still just a dog. be thankful for that.

    1. Military Dogs to be Treated as a Soldier same as Humans !!!!
Police Dogs to be Treated as Police Officer same as Humans !!!!!
