McDonald’s Bankruptcies Soar 40% and Now Thousands of Stores Are About to Disappear

McDonald’s is a fast food empire with over 40,000 restaurants across the globe and more than 13,000 locations in the United States. With an annual revenue of over $23 billion a year, the company is by far the largest burger chain in the world.

Since the pandemic, it saw profits ballooning, despite citing rising operational costs and supply chain issues as major problems dragging growth and even passing along a series of price increases to its customers to allegedly offset sales losses. With its stock rallying at the moment, and higher menu prices resulting in a significant increase in average ticket costs, it’s hard to imagine how a business of this size and magnitude can be struggling right now.

  1. Prices and poor service are driving customers away. You alway need to check the bag before leaving or somebody in your family or group is going to be missing something.

  2. I used to eat there when it was cheap but now I can eat just about anywhere for the same price so I go to better places.

  3. Weak article. If 5 franchisees went banko last year and 7 this year that’s a 40% increase. How many units out of 40k is that?

All businesses employing beginning workers are under pressure due to states and towns arbitrarily jacking up minimum wages without any productivity increases to support the increased costs. Stopped by a BK few months back on a whim; $11 for Whopper and large fries w/o coupon. Mid afternoon so only 1 other customer inside and nobody driving thru. There were 4 or 5 staff so @ $75 in just base payroll that hour. The math won’t work over the long haul. Guess who is exerting better control over his whims now?

  4. The profit from the new ten cent bag fee in Salisbury should remedy the financial ills of our local McDonalds!
