Wicomico County Public Schools Demonstrates The Fruit of Wasteful Spending

It was just 2021 when the WCBOE went with their Superintendent before the Wicomico County Council to approve “one-time funding” to purchase $30,000 in laptop carts for a school that was requesting more laptop carts than there were rooms in the entire school building. We proved and exposed the misappropriation of their bait-and-switch tactics in this past article. This is a cycle that continually repeats itself. With the school system hoping that the County Council will blindly approve educational funds under the guise of improving education, climbing aboard their abusive financial bandwagon advances just the opposites.

“If only we had more money, education would be improved.” – The Cry of WCPS

What would happen if you give a teenager a credit card to buy whatever they want without conditions or boundaries? Would they be responsible? They will go on a shopping spree. The school system is a spoiled brat that has no accountability, and more money is never enough. They will always come back asking for more. Their history of wasteful spending continues year after year. You can see another perfect example of wasteful spending and even more misappropriation in this past article.

As for those laptop carts they needed so badly, here is what became of them. They are no longer used. They have been in storage covered with dust. Thousands of dollars of taxpayer funds have been wasted.

  1. It actually costs very very little to properly educate children. Teach them to read and write, provide a sound foundation in basic mathematics. Teach them the foundational principles of science. Teach them to learn. Some books, some time, some educational exercises and challenges. It requires thoughtful interaction, not expensive technology.

  2. Time to put adults in charge of the board of education. I’m a teacher and they piss away so much money it’s shameful.

    1. WCBOE needs their budget chopped like Worcester just did. The county and taxpayers need to see a line item budget.

  3. Dear Readers,

If the public was truly aware of how much the WCBOE financially wastes, the public outcry would be deafening. I would suggest that concerned constituents request (demand?) of the board a line by line explanation of expenditures immediately.

For example, have the entire CTE budget laid out by the relevant supervisor, including salaries and all expenditures. Let me assure the readership that they would be shocked, and this is only one department.

Frankly, there is no transparency at all regarding the WCBOE. This has always been an issue but will get much worse as the Wicomico taxpayers flee from the county. Joe’s piece regarding the tax rate should cause great alarm in the constituency, and this revolving finance door is pillaging the taxpayers.

I left many years ago for greener pastures – I would suggest Wicomico residents do the same.

    Regards,

    Paladin

  4. The lower your test scores the more money you get. Somerset’s top administrators are from Worcester. Worcester is in the top three while Somerset finishes in the bottom 3…every time. Why should Somerset’s Superintendent improve, when he gets more and more money to play with and a contract renewal with no contingencies based on improvements. Poor Somerset students and citizens as we are doomed for failure while paying the most per student to educate.

  5. The WCBOE members are incompetent, and they always have been. They are no more than rubber stamps and seat warmers. They all fall in line with administration and the union like dumb sheep being lead to the slaughter. It’s all being done at the taxpayer’s expense, while our children are abused by them. Those who voted for Bonnie Ennis and Gene Malone made a big mistake. They are liberal progressives despite their AKC registration papers. That’s an absolute fact.

  6. Surprised the email from the head of the local teachers union hasn’t been posted on here yet. The schools in Salisbury are by and large blood baths each and every day and nothing is being done about it. There’s regular drug use in the hallways and nothing is done. Sex, fights, weapons, etc. all day every day and nothing is done. Maybe a day or 2 suspension and then the kids are right back. Relatives coming up to the schools to settle scores from fights. Not a peep about it from WBOC. At least WMDT did post the story on its website but it was buried beneath other headlines.

And I’m fully aware of the blatant hypocrisy of a union head complaining about students lack of discipline and how un safe the schools are…you can bet your ass they’ll keep supporting democrats.

    1. The mess you refer to is the parent’s fault, not the teachers or administrators. Granted that they need to exercise some authority, but this is ridiculous. The staff can do nothing when the parents don’t care. I’ve been in the office at WiMiddle several times where I’ve literally hear parents say to admin that they, “can’t do s@&$!” – with that sort of upbringing how are they supposed to do anything? Maybe shock collars and cattle prods would work…
