WELCOME OUR NEW HEALTH OFFICER – MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY, MPH

It is with great excitement, the Wicomico County Health Department welcomes its new Health Officer. Starting today, Matthew McConaughey, MPH will serve as Health Officer for the Wicomico County Health Department. Transferring from a directorship in Greene County, Tennessee, Matthew brings with him an extensive background in public health through his education and local health department experiences. Mr. McConaughey has family in Maryland which played a part in relocating to Wicomico County. In 2015, Mr. McConaughey graduated with a Master’s of Public Health concentrating in health behavior from East Carolina University. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Studies with a concentration in worksite health from East Carolina University. “I look forward to working with the staff at the Wicomico County Health Dept and engaging with the community to prevent, promote and protect lifelong wellness in the community” said Mr. McConaughey.

The Wicomico County Health Department has been under an Acting Health Officer, Brandy Wink, since the retirement of long-time Health Officer Lori Brewster in December 2022. We look forward to Mr. McConaughey’s leadership and working with him to fulfill our vision of “Healthy People, Healthy Communities” for those who live, work and play in Wicomico County.

  1. “….to prevent, promote, and protect….” how does one “prevent” something at the same time they are “promoting” it??

Translation: I will find many new ways to regulate, tax, and fine TAXPAYERS to make sure they are living up to MY standards and increase the revenue my department of unelected enforcers can contribute to the county budget. It doesn’t say, but I’d bet he’s a DEMOCRAT.
I will, of course, need to hire several more $80,000 a year subordinates to assist me. I know the taxpayers won’t mind. The ones who DON’T pay taxes (32% of Salisbury residents) will think I’m the greatest thing since EBT cards.
How about just hiring some people to follow all the overweight and grossly obese people in Wal Mart and slap their hands every time they buy 3 boxes of double stuffed Oreo’s, a gallon of ice cream, and five large bags of nacho’s and potato chips? Or, program those electric carts the fat people use so they don’t have to actually WALK in the store to take them to the gym instead of the candy aisle? Maybe reprogram EBT cards to reject any purchases of snack foods and treats that are easily consumed while watching Judge Judy (while the rest of us work to make sure THEY can get fatter)?

THAT’S a “wellness” program I could support. Hell, I’d even pay more taxes for something like that.
    I know.
I just gave about twenty democrats heart palpitations just READING that.
