Almost Half Of Public School Students Are Performing “Below Grade Level” In At Least One Subject

Coming out of Covid it is clearer than ever that education in the country isn’t what it once was. Now it’s starting to show up in the numbers.

Almost half of all all public school students in the US that entered the 2022-2023 academic year are lagging behind, according to a new report from Bloomberg, citing data from the Department of Education.

49% of students “are performing below grade level in at least one academic subject”, according to a new report from the National Center for Education Statistics School Pulse Panel. This number has rocketed higher from its 36% average prior to the pandemic.

1,026 public schools participated in the survey.

James Fogarty, executive director of advocacy group A+ Schools, told Bloomberg: “There are ripple effects that happen that we don’t always think of. What do you do if you’re the teacher and you have 12 or 20 different kids in your class who’ve been out for the big chunks of time? How do you then readjust your curriculum?”

  1. As a teacher, I will guarantee results when:
-Students are not borne drug or alcohol addicted
-Students have supportive and involved parents
-Students are fed and we’ll rested
-Students are lived and cared for by their families
-Students respect themselves and others and behave appropriately
    -Students speak coherent English
-Students are prepared for kindergarten by their families, both socially and academically

I could go on and on, but if what we have to work with starts life off at a disadvantage, I can’t promise I can help them reach their full potential. This isn’t about money – id willingly cut my paycheck in half to have a classroom of ‘normal’ kids who were well raised prior to entering school.

    1. When did teachers stop being able to spell properly? Today’s parents are the product of their public educations, certainly causing their children to start out at a disadvantage.

  2. Between Common-Core, DEI, CRT, and all the other indoctrinating crap being fed to the kids instead of readin’, writin’, and arithmetic; coupled with the agenda of the teachers from their unions… I’m NOT surprised!

  3. The whole Education system needs to be completely overhauled and start from Scratch, including the Schools on the eastern Shore they have gone woke also. also end teacher Unions they are Morally Corrupt and Toxic.
