One’s chance of becoming a victim of crime of violence or property is one in 22! I live on Washington St in Salisbury. My house was one of the “forced entry” on the crime list in 2005. Four years ago the front of our house had the front window shot up as well as the glass in our front door. On Jan 17 last week a neighbor came over to tell us 2:30 am there were so many shots so close he could hear the glass breaking. When I left for church across the street from our house there was a sheriff’s car in front of 400 Washington 2 houses from us. The young people in that house were being evicted. It was that house the shots were fired at the door was shot up and a window. We have had one of the areas most worst walk into our church making signs of slitting his throat and using his fingers motion of shooting a gun. He was removed. This is what we live with daily. Two of Salisbury’s finest police officers protected this area one being a Sargent if the SPD, and the other who came from the Bronx in NY stated they left because higher ups did not listen to how bad it is. If you listened to Delmarva Now this past Wed with Jake Day thanking him for a great 10 yrs and some day would like to see Jake become president! They must live in gated communities because they have rose colored glasses & tunnel vision. I pray at last maybe we will have good mayor!

Washington St. at one time was a quiet neighborhood inhabited by lower middle class workers. Now most of those homes are owned by landlords who live nowhere near this crime ridden city. Hi Stu, how are things in Hilton Head???

Yes. When we are having lunch @ St A’s,bingo or just other services we have had members hassled for $ and they get mad when they don’t get the amt they want. My husband has lived within these blocks all his life if it wasn’t for him I’d have left 20 years ago. I used to have a neighborhood assoc for 14 years until Salisbury pd gave me the arrest records for some of them & told me to never hold them again—so I stopped & all church activities outside. Jake Day would not even listen or respond even when I attended council meetings—-Glad the jerk is gone. Ireton attended our meetings responded to every call & text & Susan Phillips who used to work with code @ compliance came to respond to every incident. The good ones are gone they left or fired from the SPD & Code & compliance. Day was impossible and so is Barbara Duncan or as the SPD call her chief hug a thug.

i grew up on prince st. and that area was nothing like that. when i was a kid, i walked to the boys club every night to play sports and walked home by myself. i never felt threatened. now it’s scary to walk in this town day or night. everyone has to take a good look around no matter where they go . this is a very dangerous town with criminals and homeless people begging on most st. corners. the leaders of salisbury should be very proud. how mayor gay is moving up in his in his political career is beyond belief.

Most streets in town are a total freaking mess, with all Jake Days stupid bike lanes, that no one uses, his stupid round abouts,, one messed up city park with all the planters and whatever, college ave, south blvd, what messes they are, and a police chief that means nothing in this town cause she kisses too much a$$. Most people in this town want the old Salisbury back, it was much better than what we have now. If Heath is just as bad or worse than Day, Lord help us all. What ever happened to listening to what residents what. This town keeps residents in the dark, don’t let them speak at meetings and keeps on doing as they wish. Shame on every one of you who sit on city council and let this crap keep happening.
