Route 90 Survey Results To Be Released

BERLIN – State officials say the latest phase in the redevelopment of the Route 90 corridor will conclude later this month.

In November, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) concluded its public survey to gather input on the proposed alternatives currently being considered for the Route 90 improvement project. Those results, the agency reports, will be available in the coming weeks.

“The survey is still under review and we are targeting the end of the month to release the results,” said Shanteé Felix, MDOT SHA media relations manager. “The survey data will be summarized in the MD 90 study report.”

For years, local officials in Ocean City and Worcester County have advocated for improvements to the Route 90 corridor, including an expansion of the current highway and its two bridges from two lanes to four. Officials have argued those changes would not only ease access in and out of the resort for members of the public but would improve travel for emergency service vehicles.

In August 2021, Gov. Larry Hogan announced funding would be included in the state’s Consolidated Transportation Plan for the planning phase of a Route 90 improvement project. As part of that effort, MDOT SHA initiated a MD 90 Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study to identify long-term transportation needs, including traffic operations, capacity, safety, economic development, pedestrian and bicyclist accessibility and emergency evacuations.

  1. Concerned Retiree

The rational of making travel in and out of OC by 90 improvement project is BS. You already have a major travel blockage with all the people traveling this dangerous road and the STATE is planning on increasing the flow of traffic in which the STATE is saying it will ease traffic in and out of OC is LUDICRESS. The STATE will be creating more traffic blockages on both ends of 90. It will increase the danger even greater on 90 from BERLIN to OC.

This tells you how STUPID the Politians are and I would like to know how much kickback, starting with COMRADE HOGAN, each one is getting and the ones who are profiting from the sale of their property.
The STATE is responsible for creating safe roads not creating extremely dangerous roads

    1. On 2 dates every year, OC literally fills up all their parking spots (Air Show & July 4th). Why spend money on ANY bridge or ANY holiday without creating more parking? This idea should be filed with all the other 1/2 brain ideas that come out of the “good ones” that create Sports Complexes that come out of the town rulers. Parking doesn’t create any financial opportunity for anyone. It’s an enabler that this town wants without paying for it.

  2. The proposal highway upgrade ends at coastal highway (stop light), and with a one lane merge exit with route 50. Im bewildered with the use of the phrase “ease in and out..”

  3. The subway from Glen Burnie to west Ocean City would be nearing completion now, if construction had started 10 years as suggested. But no, let’s dick around and waste millions on studies for a new Chesapeake Bay bridge and a new Rt 90 bridge but keep 100 miles of Rt 50 just 2 lanes in each direction.
