Three students were fatally shot and two were wound. All of the victims were members of the school football team.
The suspect in the fatal University of Virginia shooting was arrested Monday morning.
The suspect has been identified as Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr.
Where Jones was captured is unclear, but Police Chief Tim Longo said at a press conference the suspect was no longer on campus, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The shooting occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on a bus with students returning to campus from a field trip to Washington D.C., school president Jim Ryan said.
The trip was to see a play associated with a class, said a school administrator, according to CNN.
Jones was reportedly a member of the university football team several years ago, and the three students fatally shot are current member of the team. Two others were wounded in the attack and reportedly are also members of the team.
The three student-athletes who died have been identified by Fox News as linebacker D’Sean Perry and wide receivers Lavel Davis Jr. and Devin Chandler. The news outlet says the two wounded are also university football players.
Classes were cancelled Monday on the central Virginia campus as multiple police departments search for the suspect, Ryan also said.
Students had been advised to “shelter in place,” according to law enforcement.
