Community Cats Coalition

Hi everyone, we are trying to keep up with all the calls that are coming in. On top of maintaining our own colonies of cats & our own small shelter, we are also dealing with calls from Animal Control. We have three colonies on one street that all the cats are fixed and each have a colony care taker. One person called in and complained about the cats crossing through his yard, ( very rural area where plenty of deers, raccoons and possums roam, yet it s always the cats who get blamed!) & now AC is telling us that we.must relocate all 3 colonies!!!! It just kills me that one person can call in and ruin over 30 cats lives! We have no where to move these cats to. They would have to be reacclimated somewhere else! Worcester County is right next to Wicomico County and they are as different as night is from day! Wicomico County will not come out for any reason if you call about a cat! Yet Worcester will come out and trap the cat and then I have to pay to get the cat back in order to save its life! I understand they have rules they have to follow but this is ridiculous! We are the ones controlling the overpopulation here on the shore. We get no help, we get no credit, we get no funding from the government yet taxpayers dollars are going to support animal control as well as the Humane Societies. While I understand that each entity has its function no one is addressing or helping us with the problems! We cannot keep rounding up cats to kill them to make room for the next group of cats that will be coming in. We need to address the problem! We must practice trap neuter return. If kittens are not being born then the overpopulation will decrease! We must change laws! If a cat has already been fixed, & ear tipped that cat must be protected under a Community Cat law similar to Anne Arundel s new law, (which we are trying to get passed here), we must get vets to lower their exorbitant fees for spay/neuter, we must get a high volume low cost spay/neuter clinic here on the shore, we must EQUIP, EMPOWER, EDUCATE, everyone on the benefits of early spay/neuter! 2 women CANNOT keep up with the endless calls coming in! Residents of these communities must help us fight for change! We cannot do this alone! These are innocent lives we re talking about! Living breathing sentinent creatures! IF THEY BREATHE , THEY LIVE, IF THEY LIVE, THEY FEEL, IF THEY FEEL, THEY LOVE, IF THEY LOVE, THEY ARE AWARE, IF THEY RE AWARE, THEY HAVE A SOUL!!! Anthony Douglas Williams
