BERLIN – “Active” and “ongoing” remain the words to describe the current state of the investigation into Gavin Knupp’s hit-and-run death.
One month after the agency’s last public statement on the probe, Maryland State Police spokesperson Elena Russo said Monday there were no further updates on the investigation at this time, confirming, “the investigation is active and ongoing.”
In late August, Russo said, “Crash team investigators continue to follow up on leads while talking to witnesses. This case is active and ongoing while police seek anyone with first-hand knowledge of the incident or who may have witnessed the incident to contact police at 410-819-4721. Callers will remain confidential. Once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.”
Knupp was struck and killed by an eastbound black Mercedes Benz on July 11 on Grays Corner Road, which is often used a shortcut between Routes 589 and 50. Knupp was a pedestrian on the road and returning to a vehicle driven by a family member when he was hit by the vehicle, which did not stop and fled the scene. He would die soon after from the collision. The vehicle was recovered six days later from a West Ocean City home in the Ocean Reef community. The motorist has not been officially identified and no charges have been filed in the case to date, as the crash probe continues.
While waiting for the investigation’s findings, the family has recently embarked on a new movement with the creation of the Gavin Knupp Foundation, which aims to keep his memory alive while raising dollars to help the community. The foundation’s initial target is improvements to the skate park in Ocean Pines where the 14-year-old boy spent many days with friends.
So the OP board of directors banned some big guy from their yacht club for 90 days, for yelling at a petite woman over some political squabble. Right after that, a key employee (and part owner?) of the company which runs the yacht club gets himself and his girlfriend’s son all liquored up at the club, they take an alternate route home (to avoid the police?) and the son hits and kills someone right in front of the key employee, who was driving behind him. The two sneak home and hide the evidentiary vehicle (more on that in a moment) until a neighbor alerts the police.
Why is there no retaliation against the key employee here, or the company he co-owns or at least co-manages? It’s not OK to berate and intimidate a woman half your size in a public setting (agreed) but it is OK to do what big Ralph and his cowardly housemate did. That makes no sense at all.
When the civil trial unfolds, you will learn most of what really happened. Ralph’s public statement was completely false. His neighbors say his garage was never used for their vehicles as it was converted to a smoking room for his chain-smoker girlfriend. After the homicide, the Mercedes was stored in it. A neighbor questioned her, she denied everything, so he peeked in, saw the damage, took pictures and went to the State Police.
It’s hard to believe that OP has turned a blind eye to this. It’s worse that people continue to patronize the businesses owned by these arrogant, pompous, lying, cheat-on-your-wife (you, Matt) scumbags.
It sounds to me that Jerry knows what he is talking about. Wow. I hope the Knupp family sees justice, and soon.
Looks like several people need to be arrested and charged for this manslaughter and cover up
My daughter once worked for the Ortts and although our experience is nothing compaired to what the Knups are experiancing, due to our experience none of what has happened surprises me.
