Donald Trump defends post-election actions in new Truth Social rant

Former President Donald Trump insisted Wednesday that he did nothing wrong in the aftermath of the 2020 election, hours after a pair of reports indicated the Justice Department was looking into his efforts to overturn Joe Biden’s victory.

“Just more disinformation by the Democrats, like the Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, the long running Mueller Report, which ended in No Collusion, and so much more,” Trump began a series of posts on his Truth Social platform. “Now that we have found the answers to these crooked, election changing events, why is the Justice Department not prosecuting those responsible? Plenty of time left!”

Late Tuesday, the Washington Post and New York Times reported that investigators are asking witnesses about their conversations with the 45th president, his lawyers and other allies — with the focus on a plot to submit slates of electors pledged to Trump in battleground states won by Biden.

The DOJ’s reported inquiries do not mean Trump himself is the subject or target of any criminal investigation, though Attorney General Merrick Garland has declined to rule out charging the former president with inciting last year’s Capitol riot.
