Trump Slams Maryland Gov. Hogan Ahead of Primary

A day before Maryland’s gubernatorial primary, former President Trump laid into incumbent Gov. Larry Hogan, calling him a “Shutdown RINO” (Republican in name only) over his COVID-era lockdown policies.

Trump took to Truth Social on Monday to advocate for his preferred candidate, state Delegate Dan Cox. He also took aim at Cox’s top Republican challenger, Hogan-backed former Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz.

“Maryland, tomorrow is a big day,” Trump wrote. “Get out and vote for Dan Cox for governor. Get rid of Shutdown RINO Larry Hogan who is trying to get another RINO into office, Kelly Schulz,” the former president wrote.

“Dan Cox will be a great governor. Tomorrow is the day. Get out and vote!” he added.

Hogan, a self-described moderate, is ineligible to run for a third term as governor under state law. However, the blue state governor has floated the possibility of running for president in 2024.

In a phone interview with CBS News last week, Hogan said he was weighing the possibility of running more and more due to his belief that Republicans are fed up with the former president.

“There’s a diminishing number of folks that are wanting the former President Trump to run,” the Maryland governor told the network. “There’s a growing number of people that are looking for our kind of successful, bigger-tent politics.”

  1. The Dems gave Cox alot of money in hopes that he wins, because they think he can’t beat the Dem against him in Nov. election for Maryland Gov.

    1. Stupid strategy 11:50, it’s going to backfire on them. The democratic party has never been accused of being smart
      LOL

    2. 11:50 They spent over a million trying to stop Cox. It backfired. Stupid stupid stupid. Just like the Democratic Party. You on the other hand sound very salty😂

  2. Concerned Retiree

If COMRADE HOGAN ENDORSES anybody I WILL VOTE FOR THE OPPONENT or write in Santa Clause or TRUMP.

  3. The Dems and anyone with a functional brain knows Cox cannot beat the Dem’s nominee in November. He would not even get the 32% that Trump got in Maryland’s general election in 2020.

And, if Cox is the Republican nominee in November, that will cause the Dem’s to forget whatever differences they may have and turn out and vote against Cox and other Republicans on the ballot in November.

  4. Actual dilemma. Hogan was elected twice by being Republican lite. A great many Republicans wish he’d pushed harder and more forcefully for Republican goals and principles. But in a state that is so Blue maybe he got as much as could have been accomplished. At a minimum, he was better than any Democrat would have been. His attacks on President Trump have been unacceptable, whether due to philosophy or personal strategy.

Cox has Trump’s endorsement; that may play well with Trump supporters today but probably will be less successful in the general election since the Democrats will use him as a Trump pinata if he’s the nominee. I have not seen much about his career and accomplishments so actually figuring out if he’d be a good governor remains unclear.

Schulz was/is a Cabinet Secretary in two different areas in Hogan’s cabinet. That’s actual nuts and bolts administration, and working with the Dem majority legislature, which the next governor will have to master. Also was in the legislature, IIRC. So, like it or not, more of the Republican lite, which the voters liked the last two general elections.

The late Bill Buckley always advocated the most conservative candidate who could actually get elected. This time out I think that favors Ms. Schulz, if she gets the nod.

If Schulz gets the nomination her Dem opponent will be either crazy, crazier or craziest depending on who Dems choose. 3 bad choices, so she’ll look good in comparison to each of them. I really dislike building tickets and choosing candidates by gender or other demographics rather than accomplishment, but that’s the world we live in. So she’d be the first female Governor which may snag some additional votes.

    We’ll know shortly what’s what.

  5. Folks blame “covid” for ruining Maryland businesses…BS…Hogan could have STOPPED all those shutdowns. He got my vote last time because it was better than putting Jealous in…or was it? His personal vendetta for whatever reason(s) and being so outspoken against President Trump showed me he was more about himself than the people of this state he was SUPPOSED to act for. I have NO respect for him now and as for his ‘clone’ Schultz…I’m glad she ‘recovered’ from being pregnant at 19, ending up being a single mother with 2 kids…being careless and stupid in life doesn’t qualify you to run for Governor. Schultz supported Hogan’s shutdowns…NO THANK YOU!

  6. Schultz and Hogan in the same story. Im I the only one wondering where COL Klink is?

    (snicker snicker!)
