SALISBURY – Acting Wicomico County Executive John Psota stood in front of the 42-year-old Wicomico Civic Center on Thursday, May 19, and told stakeholders how a $5.5 million federal grant will make major venue improvements possible.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced the award this week. The American Rescue Plan Act grant funding will be combined with $1.4 million in state and local funding that is already in hand.

“The planned improvement will total $6.9 million, representing the single largest investment in this building in over 40 years,” Psota said.

Plans include an expanded box office and lobby, safety barriers along the north and west sides of the venue, improved wayfinding, improved Americans with Disabilities Act access to the building, an expanded food court and better connectivity between the Civic Center and the Wicomico High School campus.

“We are hopeful that the EDA’s investment, along with other investments being made in the county and the city, will spur additional investment in the community and continue to create local jobs and promote additional economic activity through the events held here,” Psota said.

  1. I don’t know who drew this picture of the proposed building changes, but he has a wild imagination that has no connection to reality. Probably never even looked at the building. That is a HUGH waste of money…

  2. That is just sooooo awesome…..who in the world comes to Salisbuy to entertain? What intersting things are booked (umm….monster truck ralleys, some goofy fake wrestling and concerts that bring out less than desireable elements who act like a bunch of goons.)

    …here is a thought – just don’t

    1. I went to the Civic Center one time to see a mud wrestling event but that was long ago before everyone became so politically correct.

  3. Concerned Retiree

WHY? The management can never book anything that is worth going to the SECURITY is full of people who knows nothing about security and have ego problems and are very incompetent. They know nothing about hot spots are patrolling parking lots let alone any type of crowd control or scheduling staff.

I know when I retired, 22yrs, from Corrections I was told I was not qualified and did not meet their requirements. That is all they would say.

Who had this bright idea of wasting more money on this project when they could do better on building a SENIOR CENTER that seniors could afford or even free with the inflation at ridiclous high and SSI going up along with MEDICARE increasing more than the SSI raise.

I forgot the COUNTY COUCIL doesn’t care about seniors. They just care about a tax payer check for screwing everybody else.

  4. Let’s see a federal grant from the Corporation that keeps sending all the $ to Ukraine, and now spending millions for vaccines. Anybody care to bet on how this one turns out.

    1. yeah, and keep voting for these RINOs on the council who support it….or that pedophile Giordano…I’m sure things will change when that Karen starts earnng 100K a year off MY MONEY!!!!!
