SALISBURY – As the adoption date inches closes, county leaders met with department heads last week to discuss proposed budgets for the coming fiscal year.
In a work session last Friday, representatives from the airport, sheriff’s office and corrections department came before the Wicomico County Council to discuss their proposed budgets for fiscal year 2023.
Finance Director Pam Oland noted the airport budget, totaling more than $4 million, included additional funding for other post-employment benefits (OPEB) and pensions, as well as the purchase of an airport building currently leased by FedEx.
“The lease for the FedEx building is coming to an end …,” she explained, noting that the purchase was part of the lease agreement. “We become the leaseholder instead of the developer who developed the FedEx building. We don’t have any indications that FedEx wants to leave, it’s just a matter of us becoming the leaseholder and collecting the rent rather than the developer being the leaseholder and collecting the rent.”
Airport Manager Tony Rudy added that the airport would purchase the building at 25% of its assessed value. Councilman Joe Holloway, however, urged officials to complete a detailed inspection of the property.
Spitfire Spam also was asked about county take home vehicles and said only the sheriffs department utilizes them which is false. You have your acting director of public works driving a unmarked county vehicle home daily along with the landfills superintendent and people from emergency services too. The police people have no problem with because of there presence. Gasoline is approaching 5 dollars a gallon and Psota is running for C.E. and he has not asked departments to monitor fuel consumption better or to team up using 1 vehicle instead of two. This is only common sense to the taxpayer but the Wicomico County administration continues to waste money instead of coming up with proactive solutions to solve problems before they become a reactive cost to the taxpayer.
Julie G for County Executive
Who can iI complain to about the old WWII airplanes doing “touch & go” at the expense of all of us in the glide path? They rattle windows and scare children and pets (mine hide in the central bathroom) because they don’t have enough power to get high off the ground like the Jets.
come on man when the shit hits the fan you will be glad to get on one of those WWII planes to get your ass out of here
Where would I go??? People are Everywhere..
Complain to anyone you like.
meanwhile Giordano literally stated last week at an event in Delmar that there should be “no budget oversight” of the sheriff’s office and had no comment when Lewis demanded a random 8 million additional bucks from the county for a new complex this is now 16 Million dollars overbudget….you think our county is in the crapper now? Wait till we get Giordano’s sloppy seconds. At this point, I’d rather either abolish the position of executive or see that braindead bozo Davis get elected….smh….
WOW! Thanks for bringing this to light.
hasnt got to the statis of the Salisbury Fire Dept has it , wow what was the price of that building with bullet proof glass and all.. Damn even a kitchen that doesnt get used that much
Mitchell’s had an event, with Sheriff Lewis speaking. I had the displeasure of being in line having to listen to a couple of millennial political wanna-be’s hashing out how to solve the county’s problems. One was running for county council?
They had no problem openly spewing their ignorance on how we need to cut off handouts to everyone except in particular, firefighters who shouldn’t have to pay property tax. Because apparently they are more special than anyone else. These idiots droned on and on with mis-information and ignorance for an hour.
Problems with this self serving theory, and imbecilic conversation:
The “handout” was given to those who lost their job and healthcare during covid. While the government
decided it was time to go back to work, what were parents supposed to do with their children since schools
and daycares were still closed? This handout was most beneficial to those making under $15/hr. Those
making over $15, no so much
The handouts ended in Sept 2020 so it no longer applies, this fact totally obliterated any point you thought
you had. It’s a head scratcher that you did not know this. It’s scary to wonder what else you don’t know.
Your proposed handout only applies to homeowners and your population is 70% rental. So the other 70% of
your fire fighters get nothing?
One candidate was wearing a leather jacket that looked like a bomber jacket from the 80’s. Dude, upgrade your wardrobe.
You will know who the clowns are when their banners get hung from the building near the metropolitan, downtown.
My best advice, keep your conversations out of public areas so people don’t come to the realization of just how clueless you all are. If your point was to “impress” those around you, you failed miserably.
Don’t forget the part where unemployment was so screwed up, that it took 8+ months before you were paid and in the beginning over 60+% of the money paid out was fraud!
Basically people went most of the year without being paid a dime, if they got anything at all.
Partly where the eviction moratorium came from. They also missed the article where foreclosures are up 180% from pre-pandemic March 2020.
One correction/ typo to your note, the federal subsidy ended Sept 2021 – but still a relevant point to your comment.
