Harris, Blumenauer secure House passage of Marijuana Research

Wanted to flag that the House passed the Medical Marijuana Research Act on a strong bipartisan vote this past Monday evening.  Dr. Harris and Rep. Blumenauer (D-OR), who hold very different views on the legalization of marijuana, have jointly introduced this bill in each of the last four Congresses, dating back to 2015.  The bill would expand access to street grade marijuana for the sole purpose of conducting academic research, as the current supply procured by the DEA and National Institute on Drug Abuse is plagued by logistical issues and does not meet the standard of what Americans can access on the street or from “legal” shops today.  The bill would also cut through the extensive red tape that makes it challenging for researchers to get initially approved to conduct academic research on marijuana.

Just as exciting, a very similar version of the bill passed the Senate just two weeks ago.  Congressman Harris is very optimistic that this bill will be signed into law by the President by the end of the year.  A full write up by CBS can be found below:
