A Viewer Writes: Jake Day’s Scooters

Not only are Jake Day’s Scooters littered all over the county, they are a serious traffic hazard. Look at where one of Jake’s fine constituents left it in the travel portion of the road! This could cause some serious damage to your vehicle and may cause you to swerve head on into another vehicle trying to avoid it. Are they really worth the liability to the city?

    1. How much did these damn things cost TAXPAYERS ???? They can’t be cheap !!!!

This stupid Idea should get somebody FIRED who authorized such a STUPID IDEA !!!!

They are left all over the place for Anyone to STEAL !!!

  1. Especially at night when it is raining, you are not going to see these hazards until it is too late.

You government trying to play cool at the expense of its citizens.

  2. Every day I travel many time around SU , Snowhill Road, US13 and surrounding area. Each day I see at least 3 of these scooters. I have seen one on Woodland Road. Usually they are blocking the sidewalk.

  3. Should have run it over, kill two birds with one stone. Get rid of one scooter and sue the city for damages to your vehicle.

  4. Untagged vehicles should NOT be allowed on the roads anyway !!! These are worse than a Bike & Dangerous !!!

I contacted the Mayor’s office about the hazards posed by the scooters as well. I was concerned over recent encounters that I have had with the riders of these scooters. I received the following response from Mayor Jake Day. I believed that he had approved this new aquistion.

(copied and pasted the email received from him)

Ma’am, thank you for your message. That is, however, incorrect. I understand that it can be confusing when you see us marketing on behalf of new businesses to the City, but like every other city in America which has bike share and/or scooter share businesses, the City is not responsible for the management of private rental businesses and we cannot treat them differently from Uber, Lyft, taxi companies, bus companies or any other rental company. We are, however, responsible for enforcing traffic laws and we do that through our Police Department. You can contact them directly via 911, 833-SBY-CITY or 410-548-3165. Please call those numbers directly as those are my employees tasked with addressing violations of traffic law.

    Sincerely,
    Jake

I was not at all satisfied by the above response. I still believe that the city should be held accountable.
