New Proposed Tunnel

In order to improve Delaware-State of New Jersey relations, the two states announced a partnership today to enhance the popular route from the Delaware Beaches to the Jersey Shore with an underwater tunnel. The proposed project will follow the route of the existing Cape May – Lewes Ferry line under the Delaware Bay. There are no left turns in the tunnel so New Jersey drivers should be able to handle this straight route.

  1. Good looking initial proposal.

From the upper pic and the dashed pavement striping you’ll be able to pass in the tunnel so it will partially prepare you for road manners on the NJ Pike after you exit the tunnel and head toward the Big Crapple. The second illustration shows this exciting feature more clearly.

A thoughtful feature, which would raise construction costs, would be an additional lane beginning at the NJ line for disabled vehicles. Once back on dry land in NJ there could be EV charging stations where attendants would plug in your vehicle for you; if you’re not bright enough to fill a gas tank, there’s no way you should be messing with a deadly force like electricity.

It’s time the paddle wheel and sail powered ferry service had serious competition!
