The NFL announced Monday that all 32 of its teams will be required to hire a minority assistant offensive coach for the 2022 season as part of its diversity efforts, ESPN.com reports.
According to the league’s newly adopted policy, the coach can be “a female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority.” The policy was adopted by NFL owners at their annual meeting in Florida and will be funded by the league.
The coach is required to work closely with the offensive staff as part of the NFL’s ongoing effort to increase the pool of minority candidates for head coaching jobs.
“It’s a recognition that at the moment, when you look at stepping stones for a head coach, they are the coordinator positions,” Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II, the chairman of the NFL diversity, equity and inclusion committee, told ESPN. “We clearly have a trend where coaches are coming from the offensive side of the ball in recent years, and we clearly do not have as many minorities in the offensive coordinator [job].”
Teams that already have a minority or female coach in the position will be allowed to count that coach toward the program, said NFL chief administrative officer Dasha Smith.

Any private business should be able to hire who they want no matter the race or gender. Any business owner today would be an absolute idiot if they didn’t hire the best person for the job based on race or gender. Obviously there are not that many minorities that can make the cut for the job. I don’t remember if the Commissioner of the NFL has ever been a minority. Maybe Goodell ought to step down and name his black replacement.
Diversity, equity, inclusion is not only a major topic in society, its being pushed in the government arena and now private industry. NFL is a private entity and with any other business (private or public) the BEST qualified is all that matters.

Pushing FREE community college education (on the backs of hard working taxpayers) is NOT the answer either. Isn’t it a good time to see stats on how well that FREE education has worked?
I have disliked the NFL and had absolutely no respect for it for a decade or more. When I was growing up, we all loved the NFL, but in today’s world, the NFL clearly dislikes many of us and is more and more anti-American every year. I didn’t watch any of their games this year and the super bowl was not on any TV, computer or smart phone in my house. Not even for 1 second.

I really hope this is a joke. How can the NFL tell owners who they HAVE to hire? I hate this. Best qualified gets the job! No matter what color. Pretty sure this is discrimination against whites. SMH.
