The Philadelphia police officer who fatally shot a 12-year-old boy in the back last week will be fired from the department for violating excessive force rules.
Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said that the unnamed officer will be suspended for 30 days beginning on Friday and then she will move to terminate him from the department.
‘Based off of the evidence that I reviewed, it was clear that the use-of-force policy was violated,’ Outlaw said.
Thomas Siderio Jr. was shot in the back by police after he allegedly fired into an unmarked police car that had officers inside and then fled the scene.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said that his Office of Special Investigations Unit will thoroughly investigate the shooting before deciding whether or not to press criminal charges against the officer.
‘Philadelphians are owed a comprehensive and transparent accounting of all activity surrounding the circumstances of young Thomas Siderio’s death and an unbiased and thorough investigation,’ the prosecutor said.
‘When it is appropriate for us to do so, we will disclose findings of our currently active investigation and decision on whether or not to pursue any criminal charges.’
The kid’s parents should face charges. Why and how is a twelve-year-old armed and taking pop shots at the Police? Was the kid retarded and the gun not locked up?
I would have done the same thing that the officer did
Shoot at a cop and you SHOULD die. No questions, no “review”, no lawsuits, no apology.
Parents?? Really?? The likelihood of his father even BEING in Philly unless it was in a Philadelphia prison or jail is remote.
Back in the day, EVERYONE knew (it wasn’t just the poor, picked on and racially profiled black kids that were told about it) that you didn’t TOUCH a police officer, you did whatever they told you to do (the first time they said it), you did not run your mouth to them, you answered their questions respectfully, and you NEVER EVER even TRIED to resist or pull a weapon out against them.
If you didn’t act correctly with them (see the above rules), you may lose some teeth, get an arm broken or your head cracked. You may even die. WHITE PARENTS had this same “talk” with THEIR kids that black mothers say they have with their kids. Apparently, some kids don’t listen that well….
Police don’t normally (yes, there ARE some wanna-be gestapo agents in the police) want to fight or shoot anyone. It’s never a guarantee they will live through something like that, and they know that, too.
I’m so sick of hearing about police officers responding to extreme violence WITH extreme violence and losing their careers, I can hardly stand it.
Shoot at me? I’m shooting back and with accuracy. I will kill you. None of that gang-banger “spray and pray sh**.
Shoot at a cop? I don’t care if you’re six years old, the police should turn you into an unrecognizable mess.
You ain’t growing up to be a nuclear physicist if you think it’s okay to fire a weapon at the police and you are only 12 years old.
How many times have we seen, right here in Salisbury, cops trying to make an arrest on a black suspect and, within minutes (often seconds) they are SURROUNDED by screaming black people, yelling threats and sometimes trying to INTERVENE!! Making grabs at their weapon!!
If you’ve never been surrounded by people who are acting dangerously toward you, or threatening violence to you and you are wondering if you’ll be leaving the scene alive, well, you just have no idea what the police have to deal with when they make an arrest on Church Street or a similar place.
I would shoot the first person who touched me and start shooting anyone else who didn’t “stand back!! Get BACK!! when I told them to do that. F “appropriate levels of response”. That’s how cops get killed. You attack a cop, or shoot at them and they are supposed to wrestle you to the ground and hope they live (so YOU aren’t hurt???)
So, to all you F’ing idiots who think you are “profiled”, I say this—
You aren’t “profiled” for no reason at all.
Secondly, I’ll say this — if you don’t like stereotypes, QUIT FULFILLING THEM!!
( *that* should also be part of the “talk” that all black children supposedly get…..)
Lastly, I commend the police, here and everywhere, for NOT shooting HALF the people that need shooting.
No way I could be a cop. Well, maybe for a day or two…..
