“Little” George dedicated his life to his family and community. He first joined the fire service at age 13. This commitment to community and fire service was the breath he breathed for the next 40 years. “Little” orchestrated and was so proud of bringing together a brotherhood and sisterhood from the fire service, community service, and “Snow Hill” families. Although he was a gentle giant, his heart was even larger.
He was a 40-year member of the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, serving in each line officer position throughout the department. He quickly earned the respect of his brothers and sisters achieving the rank of Chief at a young age. He was a member of the Chief’s Association in Wicomico County and served with pride. “Little” was also instrumental in creating a path for fellow firefighters and technicians to achieve certifications and skills necessary for emergency service in Pittsville. He received numerous awards, certificates, and recognition for his service.
He was known as a leader, mentor, but most of all, a friend.
In addition to his wife, Susan Whited, he is survived by his beloved sister, Jacquelyn Whited; uncle, Tommy (Paula) Bell, nephew, Philip Bell; niece, Brandi Bell; aunt, Susan Dickerson; chosen son, Joseph “JP” Pusey III; his 4-legged companion, Buddy; and his extended family and friends of Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding companies.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Clara M. “Mom” Bell; and uncle, David W. Bell.
“Little” George will be in state at the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department beginning Sunday, December 19 at 9:00AM until 1:00PM. Guests are encouraged to join family and friends to pay respects throughout that time. A formal service will begin at 1:00PM followed by dignified transfer and interment at Wicomico Memorial Park. Following the interment, guests are invited for a time of continued fellowship and refreshment back at the fire department. Guests are encouraged to wear their “Team Little” attire for the reception following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in “Little” George’s name to the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, 742 Gumboro Road, Pittsville, MD 21850.
