Resort Moving Forward With Body Camera Program; Vendor Selection Next Step

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City’s police chief says he hopes to have a body-worn camera vendor selected by the start of next year.

At the Oct. 13 meeting of the Ocean City Police Commission, Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) Chief Ross Buzzuro provided officials with an update on the department’s implementation of a body-worn camera program.

“We continue to move forward with body-worn cameras,” he said.

Earlier this year, the Maryland General Assembly passed legislation mandating law enforcements agencies to use body-worn cameras by 2025.

In July, however, the OCPD announced plans to launch a program by the start of next season. Since that time, department officials have formed a committee, met with camera vendors and initiated a trial run of the body-worn camera program.

  1. Just wait until the body cameras are used against law abiding citizens who don’t want to comply with authoritarian covid mandates.

  2. Just wait until those camera’s are “turned off” just prior to one of those wanna-be Gestapo agents beats the hell out of some kid.
Camera’s are a great idea, but I’m betting that the police get some training on when they should actually be turned on and what to say when the camera’s “malfunction” or “weren’t turned on” for various reasons, most of which will be because film will get them fired/prosecuted.
It ain’t what ya know— it’s what you can prove.
Believe one thing – the Ocean City police are NOT going to, all of a sudden, start paying attention to the law or the Constitution.
Better to explain why their camera wasn’t turned on than explain away felony assault or attempted murder.
