CARROLL COUNTY, Md. — Students in Carroll County Public Schools will not be required to wear masks when they come back to class next week, despite the Maryland State Board of Education voting for a universal mask mandate in schools.
It was a special meeting to decide what to do about students and masks when the school year starts next Wednesday. As of now, the board says masking will be optional.
The Carroll County School System’s plan was to make masks optional for the school year, but then — last Thursday, the state board of education put a kink in those plans, voting in favor of a universal mask mandate for public schools throughout the state.
Not all members at a special Carroll County school board meeting Monday agree with that decision.
“The Maryland state board, while having the legal authority to act, should have shown the wisdom to pursue other avenues as partner with the counties, rather than use a blunt force instrument and one size fits all approach,” board member Donna Sivigny said.
“I feel like having masks in place for students would be most beneficial for one, continuity of learning, and two, the best benefit for a greater community,” student board member Devanshi Mistry said.
Good for Carroll County and of course the one thing right Hogan did was STOP the mask mandate so anyone of these counties are going against state law.
Just saying.
