US Wind plans 82 additional turbines near Ocean City

US Wind has announced phase two of its plan to develop a nearly 80,000-acre lease area of the Maryland coast, bringing with it up to 82 wind turbines and come as close as 13 miles from the shore.

CEO Jeff Grybowski said on Tuesday that the new phase will be called the Momentum Wind Project, and it will be located directly adjacent to the first phase on the easternmost portion of the lease area.

“MarWind is at the easternmost edge,” Grybowski said. “If Momentum is fully built out, that will pretty much fill up the lease area. There won’t be room for many more turbines.”

While most of the turbines will be more than 15 miles from shore, the closest one, he said, will be 13 miles from the coast.

US Wind plans to have the first of the turbines in the second phase spinning by 2026, with the final one going into operation sometime in 2028.

  1. With the trillions being spent to include SNAPPERS gittin their crabs and hooch…..we r still talkin about trubines? WTF? Money wasted again and again. Gimme my boat, assawoman badly, fishing, crabbin, clammin and mussels….not to mention bourbon. Happy days and a big giant middle finger to City Fail.

  2. ALL wind land based turbine farms have proven themselves as costing more than the power they produce over the long run, so let’s try doing this out in the salt water ocean 15 miles from any maintenance facility.

    Yeah, that will work better!
