Baltimore is nearing two hundred lives lost this year. Almost 400 others have been shot and survived.
The mayor is rolling out his new crime plan saying he intends to use it to reduce violence by at least 15% each year over the next five years.
So what happens next?
The mayor’s new crime plan will make significant investments in violence intervention programs like Safe Streets and also will work to connect people who are likely to commit crimes with violence prevention programs.
Never before has Baltimore developed a holistic violence prevention strategy,” mayor Brandon Scott said Friday.
He believes the answer to stemming the city’s rising violence lies within the 33 pages of his new crime plan.
“At least we now finally have something on paper. He’s talked about a lot of ideas,” says political analyst John Dedie. He believes the mayor needs to constantly be talking about the plan now.
How many more lives will be lost to this kind of ignorance.
Hire more police – support them – give them the tools needed – and allow them to do the policing.
Lock up the serious offenders the first time they commit a felony.
Bloods and Latin Kings will definitely talk it out with a therapist. Good job Mayor.
Dems have been making plans to reduce crime in Baltimore for 40 years. More talk while criminals walk.
Safe streets people have been known to be key orchestrators of organized crime. The local Salisbury one ‘resigned’ as he was under investigation, and they very recently convicted a Baltimore safe streets coordinator on drug distribution. How exactly are they helping again?
I was in Baltimore the other day… what a third world crap hole …. If not for the hospital I’d never go there again. They really should consider moving the university of Maryland medical center and John’s Hopkins to another location and while you’re at move the Ravens and the Orioles… think of patients and fan safety… while I’m at it Tidal Health is terrible and everything we feared socialized healthcare would bring… Can’t get appointments proper care and diagnosis or specialist care here anymore and have to go across the bridge into a nastier ghetto than Salisbury to get seen
100 truth !
Safe streets, lol, the number game.
Doesn’t smallsbury participate in the numbers game of reclassifying crime?
have they run out of social workers already?
Organizations to which I belong used to have their state meetings in Baltimore. NO MORE. Meetings are in Annapolis or Montgomery County.
Let me look into my crystal ball and make a not so bold prediction that this will fail, and the crime rate will skyrocket. When will they ever learn that all of their stupid crap won’t work?
400 shot and survived,….. well this clearly shows that there needs to be more training on the gun range and bigger calibers of guns used.
Those cheap 22’s and 32’s are too small to really get the point across, a 357 Mag or a 45 or 44 Mag will send a better message of “don’t mess with me”.
The Mayor has encouraged bad behavior for years, she even said to the cops to stand down and let them burn and loot. Fire her and let the FBI run the city like they did in Detroit and watch crime drop!
Baltimore has a States Attorney who will not prosecute a wide variety of crimes. So how likely are cops to intervene or arrest for these crimes? Not much. Plus the cops are way short of manpower.
Rudy Giuliani cleaned up NYC by enforcing the law, including the small stuff. That was about 25-30 years ago. Maybe Harm City could take notes and give it a try.
As long as Baltimore has the incompetent leadership it has, nothing is going to change, just get worse. I am ashamed to say I was born in Baltimore, but that was a long time ago when the majority of the city was decent and safe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,a very long time ago.
