Congressional Democrats introduced the Reconciliation in Place Names Act last Friday to address land areas with racist and bigoted names. More than 1,000 land units and geographic features with racist names, such as “Negro Mountain” along the Allegheny Mountains, stretching 30-mile from Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, to Casselman River in Pennsylvania, are still labeled on US maps.
Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Edward Markey, and Rep. Al Green, along with 25 cosponsors, all Democrats, introduced the bill.
We used to live there. The name was given to honor them, not to mock them. KEEP THE NAME!
Changing names, removing history comes at a very expensive cost, which we all pay without a vote.
As a Celtic-American, I’m outraged at the cultural appropriation by bill sponsor Al Green of Ireland’s national color, green. Not to mention that of Fauxahontas.
I demand he change his surname to something that does not infringe on the cultural heritage of others and more closely reflects his authentic self; my first choice for him would be **ithead.
