Spectators cheered Saturday as a stone statue of a Confederate general was hoisted by a crane and removed from a pedestal where it stood for 99 years in front of a city hall in south Louisiana.
The Advertiser posted video of the work that happened a day after United Daughters of the Confederacy signed a settlement agreeing to move the statue of Gen. Alfred Mouton or let the city do so. A trial had been scheduled for July 26.
“The Confederacy has surrendered,” attorney Jerome Moroux told The Advocate. Moroux represented the city and 16 city residents who wanted the statue gone.

I feel so much better already
Removing statues doesn’t erasing history. We learn from history to be better in the future.
Wish I could be a fly on the wall 100 years from now to see what that group thinks of what transpired in the 2020’s.
The city’s NAACP is demanding the park be renamed “George Floyd Memorial Park” and a statue of him be erected where the other one had stood for 100 years.
Middle finger munday!
Put up one that depicts the real Floyd, sticking a gun into the belly of a pregnant woman to rob her! Or him passing fake 20’s!
Or better yet put up a screen and show his porn performance over and over again. Such a role model to the little thugettes!
you think it will stop there. They WILL remove Lincoln, washington, jefferson- all of them eventually. EXACTLY like the Chinese did in the Cultural Revolution. The “Four Olds”- Old Ideas, Old Customs, Old Habits and old Cultures.
You MUST buy print editions of the great books of western civ and you MUST find hiding places for them. You thought the future was going to be 1984- too late, that happened a long time ago. Read Fahrenheit 451- by Bradbury- THAT is going to be the future. They didn’t burn books because of fascism- they burned books because books hurt people’s feelings.
It’s a cultural shame really we had so many better sculptors and forges back in the day. The new statues I see going up are really hideous.
Well done.

So 16 residents wanted the statue removed so they removed it for only 16 people? WTF is going on in this country!
