Virginia NAACP calls for standards in policing following Chauvin’s sentencing

The Virginia NAACP called for action following the sentencing of former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, for the murder of George Floyd. Meanwhile, a Virginia police organization said reforms recently established needed time to work.

“Today’s action was accountability. It wasn’t true justice,” said Da’Quan Love, Executive Director of the Virginia NAACP. “Legislation right now is what we need to ensure that what happened to George Floyd over a year ago, won’t happen again a year from now.”

Love said the NAACP was renewing its call for federal and state standards in policing to hold officers accountable.

“The fact that we are holding the officers accountable in Minnesota should not be the exception, it should be the rule,” said Love. “Until we have standards for law enforcement, we are left to the whims of juries, and we’re left to the whims of judges.”

Love added that the Virginia NAACP had made recent requests to Governor Northam to act at the state level.

  1. Maybe add a few words on the consequences of breaking the law? If there were no laws, there would never be a problem of Policing but I don’t think that’s the answer.

  2. Funny they should mention the word accountability! They wouldn’t have to worry about police interaction if they were being held accountable for their crimes! No more slaps on the wrist 10-15 times until they finally kill someone and then cry that they were such a good child blah blah blah. Do the crime and do the time. Crime is going up up up because nothing is being done to deter it.

  3. Chauvin got screwed. He was denied a change of venue and a sequestered jury. He should have had both but tht liberal, bleeding heart judge was afraid the city would be burnt down if he didn’t hand down a stiff penalty,. Floyd died of a drug overdose.

  4. NAACP calls for standards? What a crock…

…Maybe the NAACP can teach their constituency to obey the law….wait….I misspoke. If their constituency obeyed the law in the first place there would be no need for the NAACP.
