Former President Obama said Monday that Congress needs to pass voting rights legislation before the 2022 midterm elections, or American democracy could be at risk.
“We can’t wait until the next election because if we have the same kinds of shenanigans that brought about Jan. 6, if we have that for a couple more election cycles, we’re going to have real problems in terms of our democracy long-term,” said Obama.
Speaking on a call with grassroots supporters alongside former Attorney General Eric Holder, Obama said debate over the voting rights bill, known as the For the People Act, was worth it for him to engage in political debate, even as a former president.
I agree with the former president that voter laws must be changed before the mid term election. It is critical that we make sure that there is 1 vote for every citizen. Our country currently has over 300 counties that have more registered voters than citizens of voting age. We must adopt the measures that Georgia has passed to make voting easier and more accessible to the public and ensure that only eligible citizens can cast a ballot.

Every voter in the U.S. should have to show ID to vote and if they can’t then no vote for them. Then the votes need to be counted Correctly. So tired of all the damn talk and no action.

Hospitals and morticians legally obligated to notify Election Bureau and Social Security when someone passes to cull their names. Perhaps Postal Service should also cc: Elections with change of address info.
Bottom line: We want all actual citizens entitled to vote to do so. It’s desirable if they are well informed, but unfortunately not a requirement. Let elections be a contest between competing visions and plans rather than who can cheat best. False voters and dishonest election officials should go to jail. Fraud free elections! Now!
