New Virginia grant program offers bonuses to get people back to work

A new grant program in Virginia wants to get people back to work with financial incentives.

Gov. Ralph Northam announced a $3 million investment in the Return to Earn Grant Program, which will match payments from eligible small businesses to provide new hires with up to $1,000 to support their transition back into the workplace.

While many companies are offering hiring bonuses, the new grant will serve small businesses with fewer than 100 employees that may not have the resources to provide the financial support.

The initial launch of this program will be funded through Virginia’s federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) set aside and additional recovery funds may be allocated based on demand.

  1. I have worked for Ocean City for over 10 years and have had the same phone number. I haven’t received a single call from anyone there since COVID shutdown asking me to come back. Maybe if I attended Town Council meetings I would know they are looking for drivers. I still have a valid CDL.

I therefore think all talk about bonuses and temporary increased pay is all bull$hit.

  2. So, they’re going to pay people (with citizens $ ) so that the people can get a job and get paid????? With other people’s $ ????? Too funny. Perfect politician move…… gosh, when are we going to stop this nonsense?

  3. With no handouts and government subsidizing their every need, they would go to work …………or starve, Simple as that. No rent vouchers, food stamps, medicaide, pay for babies that baby daddys won’t. Oh yeah, they would gladly work.
