Woman impaled by beach umbrella files negligence lawsuit

A woman who was impaled by a beach umbrella in Maryland three years ago has sued the town and umbrella business, claiming their negligence resulted in serious injuries.

A lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court says Jill Mendygral, of Kingston, Pennsylvania, was lounging on the beach in Ocean City when an umbrella was swept up by gusts of wind and impaled her chest, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Rescuers cut off the end of the umbrella, leaving the tip in her chest until a Maryland State Police helicopter could transport her to a hospital.

The lawsuit says Mendygral required surgery for the wound it left behind. It says she still has back pain and pelvic pain, numbness in her right arm and hand, and a range of mental health conditions.

    1. That is a dump response. The people who rent the umbrellas should be liable. They should have safety measures to prevent this from happening.

    2. How about she sue you. I’m not into the sue game, but this lady deserves to get what she can. Sure hope you never get jabbed by the big ass umbrella’s. The stake should had been in the sand or stored properly. Wind or no wind, it is the umbrella service people that are responsible that a beach visitor isn’t injured by their equipment.

    3. Doesn’t even compare.
If one of 20 umbrella’s cut loose then it was not planted properly.
Every person who contracted Covid can sue China if they have the proof.
      What’s your point?

  1. Mom. That’s tough. I guess liability would fall on the woman. Beach at your own risk. Act of God type thing. Interested how it turns out. That wind gets in those umbrellas its like a foul ball at the park. Look out. Only thing they could do for public safety is no umbrellas at a certain wind speed on the beach. When it’s windy out there you need to be aware of your surroundings.

  2. This is why municipalities and businesses pay big money for insurance and the lawyers paid by the insurance companies.

  3. mmmmm lets see how about she sue Pelosi since its called an act of God. Pelosi thinks she is God…..mmmm crazy the way people think
