During a press conference on Thursday, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that in order to reduce crime, we should stop building jails.
“It is not acceptable for us to use jails as garbage bins for human beings. We need to treat people and see them as human. If we want to reduce violent crime, reduce the number of people in our jails, the answer is to stop building more of them. The answer is to make sure we actually build more hospitals, we pay organizers, we get people mental health care. It’s to support communities, not throw them away.”
This is a newer, dumber take (it is AOC after all) on an argument liberals have been making for decades.
The liberal idea is that the criminal is not really at fault for crime, society is at fault. If only we had done more to alleviate poverty, help people with mental illness, and had been kinder and gentler to criminals, crime would just fade away.
This idea NEVER works.

Guarantee this will be the next piece of executive orders to be signed. Republicans call her dumb but she is getting everything. Cortez could be the most effective person democrats have and for sure better then republican. The White House is currently putting the new green deal in motion 6 trillion dollar spending. Printing money for Cortez. Just think 3 years ago she was working for Bernie.
How about we sterilize criminals and idiots…that would surely work better than just stop enforcing laws. Or better yet make criminals be the front line forces in all foreign engagements.

I would really like to debate this with her but it is unfair to do a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
Maybe we should give her a chance at this. Sha can lead by example and try this in her district. She can pick the jail and release all the prisoners into the surrounding neighborhoods. Then her and the mentally challenged people that voted for her can report back to us on their success.
This girl is beyond stupid. I worry somebody like her will get real power. Oh wait, they do, from the top down.
