Gov. Larry Hogan announced Monday 3,300 state employees from 12 state agencies will be relocated to offices in downtown Baltimore to help support economic development.
In a press conference, Hogan said the move will help support the economy in the Central Baltimore business district.
The Maryland Department of Human Services’ 700 employees and the Maryland Department of Health’s 1200 employees will be the first to move to Baltimore.
“Strong Maryland depends on a strong Baltimore City, which is why the entire state government has been working hard to improve the city,” Hogan said.
The state has also invested $9 billion in direct state aid to the city as well as $1.3 billion for public safety and crime control efforts. They’ve also invested $4.7 billion in Baltimore city transportation.
Although the economy has been bouncing back as more coronavirus restrictions are lifted, Hogan said in downtown Baltimore, vacancies in the central business district are up 34% and major businesses like T. Rowe Price and Bank of America have announced they are relocating to other parts of the city.
Foreseeable consequences:
Many early retirements and resignations by those unwilling to travel daily to Charm City’s urban free fire zone.
Life insurance payouts to surviving family members of murdered transferred employees will rise, with subsequent increase in premiums the state pays.
I would rather seek employment elsewhere than work in any area of that disaster. That place goes down hill each time fat boy throws billions of taxpayers fund’s into the hell hole. Here is a thought for Hogan strong. Get a estimate on demolition of the dump. Flatten it and sell of lots. You sir are a string realtor. That could be prime property when sanitized.
Hogan is putting state employees lives at risk … at least he detests them as much as regular Marylanders
Anything that helps call attention to the trash heap that is, “Charm City.”
What a waste of money. They just moved a bunch of offices from Crownsville to Lanham around five years ago; the Crownsville building sits there mostly empty. Now a move to Baltimore
AND – How many will quit – to avoid CRIME that Maryland wont stop… Maryland the New Detroit / California
Is Pelosi running all these states, that’s right they are all DEMONCRAP run Cities. or Rhino.
Didn’t the office buildings use to be in Baltimore years ago and they moved them out of the city.
Aside from the cost of the moves, won’t this negatively affect
the places the employees now work?
To the SEWER !!!!
No one from Annapolis or in DC ever considers 2nd, 3rd and 4th order effects.
Spending for the move, then more spending for ramifications.
HA, forced economic growth works so well!
3K State employees were just sentenced to DEATH by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan!
The State employees on the first day they have to report for work in Baltimore is to fall off the side of the sidewalk and sprain their ankles for a worker’s compensation claim to get a full medical retirement!! F**K Hogan!!
When will the Hogan nightmare end ?
Where is the parking? Is Hogan making them pay for the outragous cost of parking? Will they be walking 10 blocks from parking lots if they find a spce to their work site? Where is their security going to be , since Hogan and his DEMOCRAT buddies are defunding them and or handcuffing them from protecting the public?
WHERE IS THE UNIONS on these worker safety issues?
