MTA wants your input on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge

If you’ve ever sat in traffic on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and let out a few choice words, well, now’s your chance to say it to the Maryland Transportation Authority directly.

Officials held the first live public comment sessions Wednesday to hear what people think about several ideas for a new Bay crossing, all aimed at alleviating the congestion many Marylanders know all too well.

State officials started the process of planning a new Chesapeake Bay Crossing all the way back in 2017. Now, they’ve narrowed things down to four options. One is to do nothing. The other three all involve new construction, including the MDTA’s preferred choice, which would add a new crossing near where the current Bay Bridge is now.

“We don’t know whether it would be a bridge or a bridge tunnel,” explained MDTA Project Manager Heather Lowe. “We’d be looking at that in a potential future tier 2 study.”

The public comment period for this phase of the project will run until May 10th.

“What we want people to do is take a look at the information that we’ve prepared and let us know your comments,” Lowe said.

  1. Another span at the same location to get folks over (either way) faster? Hahahha. Come on engineers that mean route 50 on both sides will need to get more lanes or the bottlenecks will remain. Politicians blocking the needed crossover further south down the Chesapeake. We are in the early 20s now…NIMBY mindset is from the 20th century. The eastern seaboard is saturated with people and huge population-based cities. To move people u need infrastructure updates. Delmarva is a tourist generating mechanism.

A new bridge further south opens up..taps into more revenue for years to come. We are a business.

  2. The truth (which too many refuse to recognize) is that Ocean City does not have enough parking to accommodate more tourists. An example of that is the Air Show and July 4th weekend. Visitors then completely fill every available parking in that down clogging all roads into it. Planners (if there really are any) need to first decide where best to locate a new destination for tourism. Having done this they need to plan out from that for roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.

  3. Build a BRIDGE TUNNEL like the smarter bunch in Virginia did !!!! Solved

NO more High up in the air Bridges (Dangerous )

  4. I have to go across the bridge every week I visit towns in predominantly between Harford, Cecil, and Saint Mary’s county. You do not want that traffic here on the daily. It wouldn’t be just beach goers. There would be opportunity that will be exploited that doesn’t exist yet. Route 50 would be just like across the bay, obviously.

  5. Idiots in Maryland can’t even put Stop Lights where they are needed !!!!! Snow Hill Rd & Johnson Rd corner &
Tighman Rd & Mt Herman Rd corner in Salisbury !!!!!

Also they put 8 to twelve of them where ONE would do !!!! Mt Hermon Rd & Walston Switch / Many more

  6. Enough lights waisted where they Not needed, so use them at places that are needed !!!! SOLVED

Round-abouts not needed (waisting more taxpayer $$ ) esp the One at Park area in Salisbury

Bike lines in Dangerous areas need to be Removed (have No-Bike Zones,No Bike Roads ) !!!! Salisbury

  7. Bike lines in Dangerous areas need to be Removed (have No-Bike Zones,No Bike Roads ) !!!! Salisbury . Also they put 8 to twelve of them where ONE would do !!!! Mt Hermon Rd & Walston Switch / Many more. Nothing will ever happen in our lifetime. NIMBY mindset is from the 20th century. Gordy rd & Beaglin Park has 12. Delmarva is a tourist generating mechanism.
