President Biden’s “border czar” is stepping down amid the surge of migrants to the US-Mexico border that the White House has refused to acknowledge as a crisis.
Former US ambassador to Mexico Roberta Jacobson will retire at the end of the month, with National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan saying Friday that the move was “consistent with her commitment at the outset to serve in the Administration’s first 100 days.”
Sullivan said Vice President Kamala Harris will continue to lead a “whole-of-government approach” to the crisis — appearing to contradict the recent instance from the White House that Harris only is handling the “root causes” of migration.
Sullivan said, “President Biden has asked Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the Administration’s work on our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle, a testament to the importance this administration places on improving conditions in the region. The Vice President is overseeing a whole-of-government approach supported by outstanding public servants across the interagency including Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, who were tasked by the President at the beginning of the administration to rebuild our immigration system.”
Jacobson’s retirement was announced less than a month after she admitted that the White House was sending “mixed messages” to migrants from Latin America, saying “it is difficult at times to convey both hope in the future and the danger that is now.”
You’ll see a crisis when they’re shittin on your front lawn, and living in a tent.
