VA Senate Rejects Bill Requiring Background Checks for Gun Rentals

A bill aimed at preventing suicides at Virginia shooting ranges has been sent back to committee, which means it has no chance of being passed this year.

The bill would have required a background check for individuals wanting to rent guns at a shooting range.

The legislation was proposed by Democratic Sen. Creigh Deeds. He cited two suicides within five days last year at the Green Top Shooting Range in Hanover. Both men were in their 20s and had a history of mental health issues. Neither man was subjected to a background check before he was allowed to rent a gun and turn the weapon on himself.

  1. FYI if you have a medical marijuana prescription don’t put it on a gun application because you’ll be turned down

  2. Preventing suicides is like trying to keep water dry. If people are going to do it, they will find a way. And what’s to keep someone from passing a background check and still committing suicide? One does not prevent the other.

  3. Yeah, I remember Creigh Deeds. 7 years ago his liberal son stabbed and attempted to murder him. He will be coming for your knives next.
