Chicago mayor tells teachers union schools must open now, struggling students can’t wait: ‘Enough is enough’

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is warning the city’s teachers union Thursday that “enough is enough” and a deal must be struck immediately to reopen public schools during the coronavirus pandemic, as students suffering from “failing grades, depression [and] isolation… cannot afford to wait any longer.”

Lightfoot made the powerful declaration as tens of thousands of K-8 students in the nation’s third-largest school district lost what was supposed to be their first week back for in-person learning.

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) — for the sixth time in a little over a week — told parents to keep their children home for remote learning Thursday as its bitter dispute with the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) over reopening conditions is delaying students from returning to classrooms.

  1. The teachers union gave $43 million to the Biden’s re-election committee. The teachers union now dictates actions what Biden, governors and mayors can take. Elected ‘officials’ just follow instructions if they want more dollars for the next election.

  2. Hooray for Lightfoot more balls than Biden, more need to do this it is what the students want they will have been out of real school a year next month, how many have committed suicide, crimes and they should have been the only consideration.

  3. Election is over…….everyone back to work and school. Pay no attention to the Dems previous claims about Covid being a threat.
