VCU Begins Removing Confederate Names from Buildings

Workers at Virginia Commonwealth University are removing Confederate-associated names from its buildings in response to a resolution calling on them to be taken down.

The Richmond-Times Dispatch reports that while the university began discussions about removing Confederate names in 2017, it took action in August following nationwide protests of the police killing of George Floyd and the removal of Confederate statues on Monument Avenue in Richmond.

The name of former Confederate president Jefferson Davis was taken down in November from the chapel in the West Hospital building. Workers also dismantled a plaque recognizing former Confederate vice president Alexander Stephens from a building on the Medical College of Virginia campus.

  1. Wonderful, after all references to anything Confederate and all the statues have gone, all of the Blacks will be happy and dancing and joyous, and love America so much they will now consider themselves true Americans and drop the hyphenated name crap. They will feel vindicated and overjoyed that now all the race problems will have gone away like the names and statues.
If only we knew that removing names and statues of Confederates would bring them in and stop the senseless rioting, looting burning and crime. Now America is peaceful and has a perminate rainbow in the sky with pink kool-aid rivers and pots of gold on every street corner.
Ya this thinking is what AOC has in her head, the country is “Healing” with this removal of “Hate” as she calls it.

  2. I think that harriett Tubman’s name should be removed from the building and park in Dorchester County. It offends me. In fact, just looking at her picture offends me
