When the president asked Biden if he would close down the oil industry, the former vice president responded: “I would transition from the oil industry, yes.” He added that the oil industry “pollutes significantly.”
“It has to be replaced by renewable energy over time, over time,” Biden said, also noting that he would stop giving federal subsidies to the oil industry.
Trump seized on those remarks, pointing them out to voters in the key swing state of Pennsylvania: “That’s the biggest statement because basically what he’s saying is he’s going to destroy the oil industry. Will you remember that, Texas? Will you remember that, Pennsylvania?”
Thinking that fossil fuels will last forever is just stupid. We can either be ahead of the curve and innovate like America USED to be known for or we can buy the technology from other countries in the future. The important thing was that he mentioned over time instead of an immediate banning of new petrol vehicles like some European countries are doing in the near future. Shutting down that big of an industry which stretches even into plastics production would be detrimental to the economy. We need to ensure green jobs are created in the areas where petroleum jobs will be lost.
Fossil fuels will be abundant long after you are gone. I was around in the ’60s when we were told petroleum would last only 12 more years. In the 70’s we were told petroleum would be all used up in 10 more years. In the ’80s we were told oil would be gone in 15 more years. In the ’90s we were told there would be no more fossil fuels available in 20 years. And on and on and on. Your problem is that you believe what government tells you.
